Description

This is a stylish Vintage Norwegian 830 Silver Cake Server in the Heirloom pattern. This elegant pattern has a series of looped lines down the front of the stem and was introduced in 1964. There are no initials or personalisation of any kind.

The cake server was made in Norway by silversmiths Thorvald Marthinsen and dates to the mid-1960s to mid-1970s. Thorvald Marthinsen founded his workshop in 1883 in Tønsberg, Norway supplying both his own shop and others nearby. In 1907 the firm moved into a purpose built factory in the city and became firmly established as one of Norway’s foremost jewellers and silversmiths. The company is still owned and run by the Marthinsen family today.

Condition is good, with no dings or dents and just the superficial surface wear that you would expect with use and the passage of time. Please make sure to view all the photographs.

The cake server is 20.5cm / 8.1ins long and 5.3cm / 2.1ins across the blade. It weighs in at a respectable 48.2g / 1.7oz of solid silver.

The underside of the stem is stamped 830S for 830/1000 grade silver, the regular Norwegian standard at this time, NM, the Norwegian design copyright mark and the chalice trademark symbol for Thorvald Marthinsen.
