Description

This is a good quality Edwardian solid copper drinks tray with a central "sunburst" pattern. The tray is made by renowned metalware company Joseph Sankey & Sons of Bilston near Wolverhampton and dates to the early years of the 20th century.

Joseph Sankey & Sons started making decorative copper and brassware, often in Art Nouveau styles, around 1890 and carried on up until the First World War. They were a hugely successful company but during and after WW1 they moved into more industrial metal manufacturing and dropped their decorative ranges.

This lovely copper drinks tray is 25cm in diameter and stands 1.7cm high. It is made in a good gauge of copper and weighs 280g. There is a sunburst design on the surface of the tray, which has rubbed away to a degree but still looks attractive. Other than that condition is very good with just the superficial wear you would expect after over 100 years of use.

The underside of the tray is marked J.S. & S.B for Joseph Sankey & Sons of Bilston and bears the registered design number 386889, which dates the design to 1902.
