Description

This is an elaborately decorated Early 20th Century Silver Plate Swing Handled Fruit Basket. The basket has an oval base with an embossed shell, flower and acanthus leaf design standing on four bun feet. The body flares out from this base and has broad scroll and fan decoration all the way round with the sculpted handle rising from the middle.

The fruit basket is British made and dates to the early years of the 20th century or perhaps the late 19th century. There is no makers' mark to say specifically who the manufacturer was, simply the E.P.N.S. stamp to show that it is silver plate.

Condition is very good, with no dings or dents, no significant plate loss and just the superficial surface wear that has to be expected with use and the passage of time. The swing handle moves smoothly and remains in position. Please make sure to view all the photographs.

The fruit basket is of a substantial size measuring 30.3cm / 11.9ins in length, 24.6cm / 9.7ins across and standing 18.7cm / 7.4ins high with the handle in the upright position. It weighs 575g / 20.3oz.
