Description

This is a boxed set of Irish 19th Century Brass Surveyor's Technical Drawing Instruments. The wooden box has a padded silk covered lining to the lid and a velvet tray to hold the instruments.

In the compartment below the tray there are two documents, presumably from one or more of the original owners. One is a record of soundings taken at Halpin Rock in December 1873 and the other is a set of calculations relating to water levels in Lough Erne.

The set is made by a company called Bennett of Cork who were in business roughly between 1850 and 1900.

Whilst this has definitely been a working surveyor's set, condition of the instruments is generally good. The box has definitely been a bit knocked around during its travels around Ireland and the silk of the lining to the lid is quite frayed and has a few ink stains. Please make sure to view all the photographs.

The box is 23.2cm / 9.1ins x 14.4cm / 5.6ins x 4.5cm / 1.8ins and all in the boxed set weighs in at 762g / 26.9oz.
