Pair Of Trench Art Brass Planters, 1915 & 1917

Photos

Description

A fine pair of Trench Art brass planters made from old World War One shell cases. The planters have a crinkle rim, a band of stamped spot decoration and are mounted on three lion feet. Each one has a hole in the bottom so they are definitely planters and not vases, although you could put a round glass vase of appropriate size inside them.

The planters are both 18cm high and 8.8cm in diameter across the base. The two together weigh in at 1.4kg.

One planter is dated June 1915 on the base and the other is dated February 1917. There are various other marks and numbers but I'm afraid I'm not enough of an expert on shell cases to interpret them.
