Buchanan and Laing (Prima Finds)

Description

A circa 1900 English (Cornish school) arts and crafts repousse and riveted copper casket. The size suggests a trinket, jewel or maybe games box. Wood lined with sheet copper over, the legs are riveted to the copper body and the the foot is formed by an internal envelope fold. The repousse work is a typical of the period and styling, an organic form 'tulip' design. The box is wood lined and the copper body is folded over the edges. The lid is attached by a fillet of copper which slots into the rear edge of the body. The hinge is full length fixed to the lid and the fillet.

Condition, this has been cleaned but not restored, there has ben no mechanical nor aggressive action to return the item to 'as new' therefore the age and character of this hand crafted item is still there. The hinge is fine, body is fine feet are fine. Internal wood shows signs of use.
