Description

An example of silversmithing that took the inspiration of the various new schools of thought that simply took design to another level. This is a Quaich but is unique, it has the traditional form but has been wrapped in a totally individual design that sets it aside from the norm.

A planished finish to the body, and solid handles (rather than pierced or embellished as is common) plus it boasts a ring end feature which further sets this example aside from the more common pieces. There is a fixed ring extension to one of the handles and then through this runs (freely) a solid larger hoop.

It was made by Frank Finley Clarkson, in Northallerton North Yorkshire. He produced a number of pieces in the popular liberty's style around this period (assay is London 1928).

This is a heavy gauge piece of sterling silver, (weight 148 gms)
It measures 4 inches diameter and 1 1/2 inches high. The extended width with the handles is 6 1/4 inches including the ring.

The assay/hallmarks are to the underside, all clear and crisp, maker and assay, date to 1928. In addition there is a mark tot he underside of one handle 'CLARKSON NORTHALLERTON'.

This is in excellent condition, no damage nor repairs nor thinning of metal, it has been cleaned and not re-polished, our normal practice is to allow the new owners the decision as to how near to 'as new' they wish to take a piece. Therefore this is an honest item it shows the fact it has been used (which is nice, it hasn't been a bit of decorative silver) the photos do the piece justice, if there is any question please get in touch.
