Description

Description: French Napoleon III sideboard from the second half of the 19th century in the manner of "VERNIS MARTIN".

The front is characterized by a hinged door with a painting depicting an amorous scene in the center, to embellish the sides there are two fluted columns ending with Gorinzi capitals in gilded bronze.

The built-in top is in white statuary marble, the key is original from the period.

The under-top band is adorned with a gilt bronze garnish with a Marie Antoinette knuckle in the centre.

Vernis Martin: The technique was perfected in 1728 by the Martin brothers who held the monopoly for twenty years. It was applied in superimposed layers, then left to dry and then painted with landscapes, figures and genre scenes.
