An oak longcase clock by James Wilson of Stamford (Linc)C1780. This very attractive Clock of small proportions houseing a well made 8 day movement with 12in painted dial by Wilson of Birmingham ( no relation) .The very attractive arch with ship of war surounded by early transfer printing decoration . The all oak case with pine backboard is completly original with no alterations having taken place. James Wilson is listed in watch and clock makers of the world volume 2 as working in Stamford between 1786- 99. He later worked in partnership with Thomas Haynes until he retired in 1803 . He was uncil to Joseph Wilson who was also a clock maker working in Stamford .

A fine example of a late 18th Century longcase clock signed 'Dugmore of Derby' on the round brass dial. This is an 8 day clock, weight driven and striking hourly on a bell. The oak case is well proportioned with a swan neck pediment surmounted with a wooden finial, a long trunk door and a most unusual carved brass moulding. The clock is fully overhauled and the movement and case in superb condition. The clockcomes with an expertise on its originality in all material respects.

The Chimes

A Chippendale revival mahogany exhibition clock A Chippendale revival flame mahogany long case grandfather clock. This clock represents the finest tall clock of its period. The complicated 8 day 3 train movement By J.J. Elliott. The chimes on the quarter hours on 8 Harris & Harrington tubular chimes with the hours striking on the 9th tube. The clock plays Westminster and Whittington Chimes. The movement having finely painted rolling moon. The face with silvered chapter ring and gilt art nouveau numerals is in excellent running condition. The case crowned with five finely carved urn finials to the swan neck wooden rosettes and finely carved dental moulding supported by six Corinthian column pillars. The freeze with acorns and leaf mounted moulding above quarter Corinthian columns and full length bevelled glazed panelled gothic door. Revelling nine tube, weights and pendulum raised up on canted corner block work. flame mahogany panels, on four ogee bracket feet J.J. Elliot The name of Elliott has been synonymous with quality clocks for well over 100 years. In 1865 James Jones Elliott of 156 Cheapside in the City of London, was apprenticed to "Bateman" of 82 St John Street, Smithfield, London., to learn the art of clock making and became a manufacturer of the fine quality Elliott of London clocks. In the early 1880s the firm J.J. Elliott, Ltd, of London manufactured massive hall clock movements of the highest quality. They were in at the start of a great resurgence of interest in long case clocks in Britain and America. In 1884 Mr. J. Harrington of the firm Harris and Harrington obtained a patent for bell chimes (tubular bells) and had Elliott adapt these to the (Elliott) movements. Elliott produced movements for the next 40 years and were always the quality standard for the industry. The Elliott Clock Company also marketed complete clocks with their movements.

A longcase clock by John Farnworth of Mansfield . This simple 30 hour cottage clock in Oak case is in very good condition having been serviced in July 09 . The chain driven movement with countwheel striking has a brass silverd dial and original blued steel hands .In very good working order. The case is also in very good condition and is a rich oak colour . The case with flat top and long trunk door has fruit wood pilasters to the hood and attractive mouldings .There is a mahogany cross banded freeze above the dial and nice mahogany bezel . The pine backboard is original to the clock John Farnworth recorded as working onlyfrom 1791 to 1795 . Apart from this not alot is known about him .

A fine Oak Longcase clock signed Pat Cock Nottingham .With brass dial with painted arch and rocking figure of farther time . The movement of 8 day duration and finely engraved on the back plate .In very good running order . The mainly Oak case is very typical for the period and area and very similar case can be found in sudbury Hall (Derbyshire) with movement by Joseph Kirk of Nottingham who Patrick Cock did his aprentiship with . The case has long trunk door and broken arch pediment and stands on bracket feet . Patrick Cock was working from 1739-1755 . He was born in 1713 and clocks of this type with engraved back and rocking figure in a painted arched dial have been seen before my myself .
