17th Century Jacobean Carved Oak Bible Box.

This early Jacobean box constructed with thick planks has the most wonderful colour and patina.

The single plank lid over front carved with ing and rope twist design ,with central iron lock again with good pitting and patina.

Replaced snipe hinges probably done in the 18th century ,originaly it would have had strap hinges,there are signs where these would have been and the base board has been replaced with three oak boards.

It is so nice to see a thick one piece top and sorry to go on but the colour is like a fresh conker.
