Victorian Silver Teapot, Thomas Bradbury, 1897

Here we have a handsome late Victorian Sterling Silver One Pint Teapot. The pot is oval in shape with a part reeded body, a hinged domed lid with an urn finial and a flat topped handle with scroll detail. There are no initials or personalisation of any kind.
The teapot was made in London by well regarded silversmiths Thomas Bradbury & Sons and dates to 1897. The firm traced its origin back to Fenton, Creswick & Co in 1773 with the first Thomas Bradbury joining as a partner in 1795. By 1831 the firm was run by Thomas Bradbury Snr & Jnr and remained in the control of the Bradbury family until the early years of the 20th century. The company was bought by Atkin Brothers in 1943 and they maintained the brand name into the early 1950s.
Condition is very good, with no dings or dents and just the superficial surface wear that you would expect after over 125 years of use. The hinged lid works smoothly and fits flush and the handle is securely attached. Pease make sure to view all the photographs.
The teapot has a 568ml / 1 pint capacity. It measures 21.7cm / 8.5ins from spout to handle, 9.5cm / 3.7ins across the body and stands 13cm / 5.1ins high. It weighs in at a substantial 312.1g / 11oz.
The hallmarks, on the outside of the body near the handle, are nice and clear to read, with just a little distortion to the makers' mark. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the leopard's head assay mark for London, the date letter b for 1897 and the T.B in a shield makers' mark for Thomas Bradbury & Sons. There is a secondary partial set on the inside of the lid.
Shipping in the UK is £13.50 by Royal Mail Special Delivery, which includes cover for the value of the teapot.
