Superb quality 8-day mantle antique clock, circa 1875. A antique clock of outstanding beauty, striking the hours and half hours on a cast bell giving a lovely mellow chime. The whole clock has been preserved under its original glass dome. The clock, pendulum and base are numbered 4192. Furthermore, the base is inscribed ‘Cartatid de Gregoire’, referring to the mythical young caryatids vigilantly on guard, flanking the movement. The enamel dial and movement inscribed C.Taylor & Sons, Paris, over a reeded column on a base with lovebirds over a Cupid bow and quiver of arrows. Ht 50, W 38, D 22 cms.
