Stunning Antique Indian Palace Doors Pietra Dura inlaid temple marble %%alt5%% %%alt6%%
This is an absolutely stunning pair of Indian palace doors which date from around the mid 19th century. The heavy and ornate doors are encased within decoratively worked white metal and each door has four beautiful pietra dura panels, made of white marble which has been inlaid with semi precious stones such as coral, malachite, onyx, jade and mother of pearl. These panels really are very fine examples of this art. The pietra dura panels are set within latticed panels of copper which show through a mirrored glass background behind. The doors have snake ring loop handles and a heavy chain fastening. The decorative white metal covers the back of the doors too. These doors are rare to find in any condition but these are in really good order there are a couple of very minor losses to the pietra dura which does not detract at all from the exquisitely pretty detail of the doors.
The doors were possibly custom made for an important building or residence but would look stunning anywhere together they make a very nice screen.
They measure 185 cms by 46 cms.
