Well Executed Pastel Painting of Roses by Thomas Bradley (1899-1993)

THOMAS BRADLEY was an English Painter and Textile Designer. He is widely recognised as the husband of the famous British Narrative Artist Helen Bradley. His textile design work was respected enough to earn him prominent clients, including the famous Bloomsbury Group of artists Duncan Grant and Vanessa Bell.

For the first forty years of their marriage, it was quietly understood that Thomas was the main artist of the house while Helen focused on family life. Helen did not start her own famous painting career until she was in her sixties.

Thomas was best known for his detailed paintings of flowers in vases.

This painting is in pastels and features an arrangement of coloured roses with foliage in a blue vase. It has been beautifully executed and is mounted in a contemporary frame and gilt slip.

On the reverse of the painting, there is an original business card for Thomas Bradley together with his address in Grange over Sands showing that the painting was bought on the 1st July 1966 for an amount 15 guineas.

Signed in the lower right hand corner.
