Smythes London Longcase Clock Bolt and Shutter
A fine quality Georgian London longcase clock with a bolt and shutter, 6-pillar mechanism. A Chionoiserie lacquered dark green/black case with detailed Chinese scenes to the case. An arched pediment flanked by a pair of original giltwood finials. Glass side hood apertures and gilded front column capitals. An arched silvered dial with fine engraving with date and seconds dials. A pull lever for the bolt and shutter maintaining power. A finely engineered 6 pillar mechanism striking the hours on a bell with outside countwheel.
There are two Smythes of London listed in Loomes' 'Watchmakers and Clockmakers of The World' book. The London made case is slightly earlier than the dial and mechanism. A rare oppoutunity to buy a fine mechanism like this at this price.
