Small Edwardian Silver Basket, Robert Pringle 1909
Here we have a charming small Edwardian Sterling Silver Basket. The basket is octagonal with a flat base, pierced sides and a beaded rim. It was probably intended as a nut dish or trinket dish originally but could be used to serve or store any small items today.
The basket is made in Birmingham by silversmiths Robert Pringle & Sons and dates to 1909. Robert Pringle started his business in London's Clerkenwell Road around 1870, with his sons joining the business in the mid-1880s. The company manufactured in both London and Birmingham. They remained a family run firm until finally closing in the late 1950s. They are best known for their range of consistently good quality tableware and flatware.
Condition is extremely good, with no dings or dents and just the bare minimum of superficial surface wear that you would expect after over 120 years of use. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The basket is 7.2cm / 2.8ins by 5.4cm / 2.1ins and stands 2cm / 0.79ins high. It weighs in at 13.4g / 0.47oz of solid Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks in the base of the basket are nice and clear to read with just a little rubbing to the makers' mark. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter k for 1909 and the distinctive R.P makers' mark for Robert Pringle & Sons. The underside of the base is also stamped with a registered design number of 474530, which dates the original design to 1906/7.
Shipping in the UK is £6.50 by Royal Mail 1st Class Signed For Parcel Post.
