Simon Turvey SWLA Watercolour Barn Owl
We are delighted to offer this outstanding watercolour by the British wildlife artist SIMON TURVEY, who has signed the painting in the lower right hand corner. The painting is an amazingly realistic study of a barn owl sitting on a branch, which will appeal to any devotee of these beautiful birds.
SIMON TURVEY was born in Beckenham, Kent in 1957. He studied art at Ravensbourne College of Art 1975-1977 and then became a full time artist. He paints in both oil and watercolour and, although originally specialising in wildlife, has now included portraiture. He was elected a Member of the Society of Wildlife Artists in 1981 and was their Honorary Secretary for some years.
He has exhibited his work in many exhibitions, including the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition and was runner-up for the Lynn Painter-Staines Prize in 2008. An internet search will reveal more information about this artist, but his biography may be found by going to the site of The Society of Wild Life Artists.
Auctions results achieved for some early works by this artist may be found at artprice.com (6 Listings), findartinfo.com (2) and artnet.com (1), but it would appear that his work does not come up for auction very often as a lot of his work is commissioned.
The painting has been newly double mounted in two tone to complement and is framed in a 1" dull mottled gold frame which suits it extremely well. It is ready to hang.
