Scottish Longcase Clock with Burns Themed Face.

Early 19th.c. Scottish mahogany longcase clock c.1830 with a superb painted face inspired by the Robert Burns song ‘Willie Brew’d a Peck o’ Maut’. Mahogany case of useful small dimensions, at 85″ to the top of the brass finial it is shorter than most 8 day antique clocks. Hood with a crisp swan neck pediment with brass roundels over an arch top glazed door flanked with turned columns. Slim case with beautiful flame mahogany veneers and crossbanding, bobbin turned quarter columns, ogee mouldings and shaped feet. Enamelled face named for the clockmaker William Crawford of Markinch featuring a delightful hand painted scene of the three friends Willie, Rob and Allan (whose convivial night was recorded in Burn’s song) in traditional Scottish dress enjoying a drink with ‘Willie Brew’d a Peck o Maut’ inscribed below. The decoration is continued with female figures to each corner of the dial representing England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland. With an eight day works striking the hours on a bell, and featuring a second hand and date dial. Iron weights and a painted pendulum. Excellent condition, works are sold with a 12 month guarantee.
