The Portal of Death.
Signed S.Webley and dated 1903.
Address and Title inscribed in pencil on original backboard attached to back of new frame.
Traces of pencil, Pen and black ink on paper.
Framed and glazed.
Webley was a self taught artist, and the originator of irridescent decorative panels. He exhibited at the Royal Academy and has held one-man shows in Bath, London and Bournemouth. He lived at 68, Kelmscott Road, Wandsworth Common, London.
A seperate picture titled Death and the Soldier was one of two works he exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1900.
