Regency Inlaid Mahogany Serpentine Knife Box
This lovely antique knife box dates from the first half of the nineteenth century. The inside has been later adapted for use as a letter rack or stationery cabinet. The box has a lovely serpentine shape, with superb mahogany veneers and satinwood and fruitwood inlays. There is a small drawer to one side. The box has a hinged lid which opens to reveal a later sectionalised interior. The box is supported on three small ogee bracket feet. It retains its lock and escutcheon but please note that no key is present.
Condition: Overall this handsome piece is in good usuable condition with some wear consistent with age and use. As is mentioned above it has been later adapted as a letter rack or stationery cabinet There is some scuffing and wear to the woodwork as might be expected and the piece is overall a little faded. There is some lifting, cracking and loss to the veneer and inlay in places and the box shows some signs of restoration and repair in places. There is no key present.
The approx. measurements are as follows:
Overall - 39cm high, 23cm wide, 30cm deep (to maximums). Further images are available. Please don't hesitate to contact us if you have any queries. Viewing is welcome, but please contact us before travelling as we are only open by appointment.
