RAY LEIGH FOR GORDON RUSSELL LTD - MONUMENTAL, DESIGNER BOARDROOM TABLE IN RIO ROSEWOOD
Offered here is a rare and monumental mid-century boardroom / conference table, designed by Ray Leigh (AADip, FSIA, MBE) for Gordon Russell Ltd, Worcestershire.
Constructed from thick Rio Rosewood veneers over a solid teak sub-frame and supported by bright chromed steel 'Y' section supports, this table was made circa 1976 (at a time when Ray Leigh himself was Managing Director and later, Chairman of Gordon Russell Ltd).
This is the R1902 table from the GR Series 26 range.
These antique tables were of high specification and built to order. They were aimed at top-end businesses and affluent private clients who sought beautiful, imposing pieces of 'statement' antique furniture for the office and home.
This piece does not disappoint and has immense presence.
The dimensions really are monumental and breathtaking....
approx 275cms long x 107cms wide x 71cms high.
These were amongst the longest, single piece veneers ever utilized by Gordon Russell Ltd.
GR R1902 antique tables, with the superb, designer, 'Y' section supports were not made in large numbers and are considered rare. A similar table with a different (and, I have to say, less spectacular) finish is featured in Ray Leigh's brand new book 'Advance the Product. Gordon Russell Furniture - A Continuing Adventure 1946 - 1986', page 118.
This table would still make a fine addition to any business but could also make a terrific statement in the home, making a very impressive dining table. It could seat eight very comfortably, with room to spare.
Viewing in person is strongly recommended the vast scale of this table is not evident in the photographs.
If you want a spectacular, mid-century table that truly possesses 'the wow factor', then look no further. This is it.
A superb addition to an open-plan kitchen / dining room, or an imposing piece for your business / office / studio, with all the space in the world for you to spread your work out on.
Condition
In overall very good used / vintage condition. The upper surface has been repolished and the grain of the rosewood still retains wonderful colour and definition. There are one or two very minor knocks / blemishes to the veneer (lost in the vastness of the surface and only noticeable when pointed out). The edges / side panels have a little wear here and there. There is one small area of old restoration, on a side panel, near a corner, completed to a high standard, and again only really noticeable when pointing out. The chrome is fair - good. There is some light wear and scratching in places, with a bit of rubbing to one of the stretchers or cross members.
Please call for a full condition report. Extra photographs supplied, if necessary.
Terms
The asking price includes UK delivery (excluding Scotland, Islands and Ireland).
Trade enquiries are welcome. Collection in person is possible.
Cash, cheque, paypal and bank transfer are all accepted methods of payment.
If you have any questions or wish to view in person, call me on 07521 214 424.
Thank you.
