Here is your opertunity to purchase something quite special and rare
The inverted bevelled Y-shaped frame raised on stylized flowerhead feet is of highest of quality. The plates are united by three turned pillars secured with introcate flowerhead nuts. Having a silvered signed "Whitehurst Derby" 3" silvered dial with Roman numerals is in stunning condition complimented by the introcate blued steel hands.
The chain-driven fusee movement with deadbeat escapement and large 6 spoke great wheel supporting the rest of the 5 spoke wheel work is in stunning condition. The movement has been fully cleaned and serviced by Westmorland glass-Steam Mill Clocks of Chesterfield is in perfect working order.
Whitehurst is a well respected and desired maker both locally and nationally. John Whitehurst I was born in the early 18th century having 7 children. Charles,James,Egerton,Watkins,John Whirltehurst II,William Chumley and lastly Mary. John Whitehurst II dates 1761-1834 leading me to date this clock circa 1810.
There are several references the the whitehurst skeleton Clocks in several books with Clockmakers & Watchmakers of Derbyshire page 208 showing a clock very simular to this one. The one used in the book is slightly later being signed Whitehurst & Son but the clock is almost identical the the earlier Whitehurst in which I'm offering for sale.
The clock is of stunning proportions seated on a ebonised piece of mahogany with that sat on a piece of white marble. I've inspected the marble and I has no major knocks or chips.
This clock is not only a magnificent example of the craftsmanship but also a beautiful work of art to look at. I have tried to include as much detail in my pictures as possible but they just don't do the clock justice.
PLEASE NOTE
The dome is a replacement dome with a slight crack in the rear. I have treated this crack with specialist glass glue. I do have what is possibly the original dome which has several larger cracks.
The dimensions of the clock including the base are as follows....
Height 15.5 inches
Width 10.5 inches
Depth 7 inches.
Any potential clients are very welcome to view the clock prior to purchase (or pay on delivery)to ensure that they are satisfied with their purchase.
This clock is much nicer in the flesh and looks superb .
If the asking price is paid in full then I will deliver and set up the clock free of charge to the English mainland,Wales and the Scottish lowlands.I will also provide a 12 months guarantee under these circumstances. This is the same service that is provided by a high street retailer without the customer having to pay for the overheads
If a lesser off is accepted then this will be sold as a trade sale with the clock as described and with shipping costs the responsibility of the buyer.
I will ship this clock worldwide .
