Rare Snake Gourd walking stick hallmarked 1908

A very rare Snake Gourd walking stick hallmarked 1908.
This is a superb, and very rare walking stick or cane and is made from a single gourd / tuber / stalk of the Snake Gourd plant. It probably was made in India for the British Raj or the Grand Tour market. The colour and patination makes this a very attractive cane, and being lightweight makes it very comfortable for walking.
In a heavily striated with a relief grain form, and has a bulbous handle onto which a hallmarked silver disc has been attached. The disc has a London hallmark for 1908 and the silversmiths mark for Barr, Moering & Co. There has been a later brass and steel ferrule fixed to the base of the cane.
The cane, being hollow, has a supporting wooden rod running through it, which gives a slight rattle.
It is a rare, unusual and interesting cane.
The length is 90 centimeters or 35.5 inches, which is a standard length for a waling stick / cane.
Excellent condition with only a couple of natural cracks in the striations, which have no impact on the strength or use of the stick.
UK first class and tracked post is £15.00.
