This is a wonderful, most unusual powder compact, dating late 1940's it is set to a hard (possibly bakelite) celluloid case, signed L.S.M (LS Mayer) it is exceptionally well made the white metal piece to the top is very Art Nouveau in appearance, there are no cracks or chips to the case and the clasps and hinges and brass clasp are in good order, opening to reveal a clean interior, with a fitted used sifter and a puff (which may not be the original, but fits well). The clear mirror has a small nibble to one corner, which does not detract. Measuring c. 3.5" inch x 3.1/4" inch, this is a super collectable piece by LSM. It is marked Patent Pending made in England.

LSM is the brand name of L.S. Mayer, originally manufacturing before the war in Germany. After the war, he moved to England manufacturing in Scotland under the name "LSM".
