R Waylett London 8 Bell Fusee Bracket Clock
A fine quality and impressive William IV period fusee, 8-bell bracket/table antique clock. A lancet top mahogany case of good proportions and colour. Ebonised case mouldings and standing on brass ball feet. An engraved bezel surrounding the dial face with convex glass. Arched side apertures with fretwork behind brass panels. Side carrying handles. A convex painted dial signed 'RS Waylett 226 Oxford Street, London. Blued steel 'moon' hands . An 8-day duration twin fusee mechanism striking the hours on a bell and quarters on 8 bells. A well engraved floral backplate to the mechanism and engraved pendulum. A transportation pendulum lock. Circa 1835.
The Waylett family of clockmakers in London are recorded in Baillies "Watchmakers & Clockmakers of the World" as working from 1755 to 1839 (James and John. Richard Waylett worked in the 1830's.
