Striking portrait of a finely dressed gentleman in oil on canvas c.1920. The subject is unfortunately unknown but he would appear to have been something of a dandy, dressed as he is in a white fedora, a maroon jacket, a white shirt and blue bow tie. The outfit is completed with gloves and a silver topped cane and he sports a lovingly cared for moustache. Unsigned but reputedly by Edward Joseph Head (1863-1937) artist and tutor to the young Augustus John. Some repairs and retouching (most obvious above the shoulders) and relaid onto canvas. Presented on an unframed stretcher.
