Description
This is an exceptional pair of wooden marblised pedestals. Dating to the early years of the 19th Century, the popular era for the celebration of 'The Grand Tour' and the antiquities of Greece and Rome. They would have been built for displaying urns, plants, statues, or sculpture.

Skillfully constructed using segments of wood to form hollow columns which were then shaped and carved into reeded pillars. The surface was developed with gesso and very well painted to simulate aged yellow Sierra marble.

They remain in excellent antique condition and sturdy for use.
