Pair of 18th-century Flemish paintings

A magnificent pair of 18th-century Flemish paintings. Oil on canvas artworks depict two splendid still lifes: a lion hunt and a bird hunt. In the first, the king of the savannah impetuously confronts a pack of hunting dogs in the second, the violence transforms into a whirlwind of feathers, a watery landscape vibrant with movement and light.
Both are part of the great Flemish tradition of hunting scenes, which were highly popular in the Netherlands during the Baroque period. The compositional scheme, the anatomical tension, and the accentuated dynamism of the animals reveal a clear reference to the work of Frans Snyder and his pupil Jan Fyt. The warm and luminous palette uses brown, ochre, and green tones typical of the Antwerp school.
It is plausible that this is a follower of Jan Fyt, active in Belgium in the first half of the 18th century. It is rare to find a homogeneous pair of hunting subjects of such balance and quality. Their compact size makes them extremely versatile and easy to place in classic or modern settings. These striking 20th-century frames, made of lacquered and gilded wood, are beautifully decorated and show some signs of age. The paintings have already been restored with re-lining, replacement of the stretcher, and minor color restoration. Overall, they are in good condition. Internal dimensions: H 32 x W 44 cm. As each of our products will be accompanied by a certificate of authenticity and warranty and photographic documentation. Every item will be packed in a custom-made wooden box. Free shipping in Europe and UK (import and custom duties NOT included). Worldwide shipping at affordable prices, ask us a shipping quote. BUY IN INSTALLMENTS INTEREST FREE.
