Painting Cherub Angel Children Sir Joshua Reynolds
The original painting by Sir Joshua Reynolds (1723-1792) was entitled A Child's Portrait in Different Views 'Angel's Heads' and was painted in 1786-7. This was several views of the head of the 5 year old Lady Frances Isabella Keir Gordon (1782-1831) who sat for Reynolds in July and August 1786 and again in March 1787, the year in which it was exhibited. She was the only daughter of Lord William Gordon and his wife Frances Ingram (1761-1841), on whose death in 1841 it was bequeathed to the National Gallery. It is now on view at Tate Britain.
