Painted Zinc & Iron Architectural Clock Face c1925
The large and decorative black and white painted zinc and iron architectural antique clock face, at almost four feet in diameter, having riveted decoration to non-numeric indicator marks, the design of art deco influence and with the original wooden backboards, survives from the second water of the twentieth century.
The face is in as found condition and has not been cleaned or restored in any way, thus retaining its charms as a decorative piece of wall art with oxidisation and wear to the extremities. There is no mechanism for the clock to operate but it wouldn’t be too difficult to implement one if so desired. The vacant rectangular plaque below suggests some kind of branding may have been in place at one stage. The hands have verdigris and attractive pitted wear.
This clock face would have been salvaged from a large building or tower such as a railway station or large cooperate premises. Buildings such as the Shell building in London and that of the former clock tower on the Gillette building both show similar clock faces.
A real statement piece giving knockout decorative effect.
