What charming recollection of childhood gone past! A cuddly teddy bear is sitting on an old-fashioned rocking horse - this painting would look lovely in a nursery or in a nook.
Margot Russell née Battersby (1913-1988) was born in Loughton in March 1913. She studied art as a young woman in London in the early 1930’s. She married an eminent Doctor but still found time to paint and exhibit at the Royal Academy and the Royal Portrait Painters Society amongst other London venues. She received a large number of portrait commissions from the late 1930’s up to the early 1960’s. During this time Margot had several solo shows in Chelsea and several exhibitions overseas. In 1966 she suffered a stroke which stopped her from working for several years until she made a complete recovery. She continued to work and lived in Chelsea until her death in 1988.
