Mahogany Longcase Clock Pitt of Frome
A well proportioned Georgian Somerset longcase clock. A mahogany case with brass capped fluted columns and rear quarters. An arched hood pediment with 2 brass ball finials. A very early example of a painted dial with raised gilt decorations and a blue and gilt Georgian urn to the arch. Serpentine blued steel hands with date and seconds. An 8-day mechanism striking the hours on a bell.
Caleb Pitt of Frome is well documented in A J Moores' 'Somerset Clockmakers' book and worked 1747-1805. Two very similar dials are illustrated in the book by the maker.
