We are offering for sale this lovely, impressionist oil on board by the artist LUCIE LAMPARTER, which is inititalled by her in the lower left hand corner and dated 1930. It is also inscribed in black paint verso in German 'nach MARY Y. HUNTER copvon LUCIE LAMPARTER 1930'.

The painting depicts a vision of Motherhood, with a mother holding her young baby, wrapped in a towel or shawl, just after bathtime, with her other child, a young girl, kneeling on her bed next to her. There is a pair of red girl's slippers on the floor at the feet of the mother. This is quite symbolic, as Mary Young Hunter painted a painting entitled 'The Red Slippers'.

Mary Young Hunter and her husband John Young Hunter were known as the New Pre-Raphaelites and Romantic Painters. They were married in 1899 and divorced in 1921 and worked in the USA from 1913. She returned to England, but died in Monterey in 1947. There is much information about her, including images of her paintings on google.

A large oil on canvas by Lucie Lamparter of a girl with a mandolin was sold on Ebay in 2012. Other than this, we have been unable to find any further biographical information about her, although we believe that she was German.

The painting is nicely framed in a 2 1/2" gilt frame and is ready to hang.
