Title Place d'Arme Vitre Brittany

Medium Oil on Board

Details Attractive market place scene in an antique decorative gilt frame. The frame is of the period and we believe it to be original to the painting, but please note that we are not 100% of this. Signed and dated in the lower right-hand corner and on the reverse. Titled on the reverse and dated 1838. The picture is painted on a Charles Roberson & Co. artist's board. The frame inner mount is shaped and has a name plaque at the bottom.

DimensionsImage - 40cm by 29.5cm Frame - 60.5cm by 50.5cm, 6.5cm deep Category Antique Pictures / Engravings / Art > Antique Oil Paintings Date 1838  Mid Victorian Antiques Material Oil Painting on Board Origin French Artist Lewis John Wood Condition Condition (Picture) Overall in good bright condition with vibrant colours. Some surface grubbiness as might be expected. Some scuffing and minor paint loss around the edges where the picture has moved in the mount. There are a few flecks of gold paint to the picture where it looks as if the mount has been touched up at some point without removing the picture. Condition (Frame) Overall in fair to good condition, but would benefit from some restoration. There are signs of old restoration and the gilt paintwork has been touched up at some point. The plaster (jesso?) has cracked in various places resulting in some areas of loss. The frame is overall grubby, dusty and scuffed and would benefit from being cleaned.
