Late 18th Century English Bracket Clock London, c18th
A well proportioned pad top bracket antique clock dating to the late 18th century. The pear wood break arch case has a pad top with a brass carrying handle, brass side frets and ogee bracket feet. The well engraved brass dial has a convex enamel centre dial with fine brass hands. Within the arch are two subsidiary dials one for a regulation rise and fall, the other for strike/silent. The movement has a nicely engraved backplate, and is signed by the original retailers, David Samuel, 43, Mansell Street, Goodmans Fields, London. It has an 8 day twin fusee movement that strikes the hours on a bell, and repeats at will with the repeat cord. The case and movement are stamped "Robson" who was the original maker. A James Robson of Covent Garden is listed in 1785.
This clock was retailed in the early 20th Century by Percy Webster, Author of English Domestic Clocks and others.
