Late 18th Cent Moon Dial Longcase Clock

A beautiful moon dial longcase clock by Richard Cole of Ipswich. He is listed as working in the Butter Market, Ipswich from 1795, moving to Cornhill in 1799. He was an apprentice to John Wontner of Minories, London in 1785. This London training is evident in the design of the case and the five pillar movement.
The case is in good quality mahogany and has many features of a London antique clock, e.g. brass inlaid stop fluted columns to the hood and trunk, double plinth base with moulded panel and long moulded trunk door.
The good quality, five pillar movement has a white enamel and gilt dial displaying the phases of the moon to the arch. Between the moons to one side is a starry sky complete with a comet. This is often found on earlier brass moon dials. Another early feature for this type of antique clock is that the dial is attached directly to the movement without a false plate.
The case is in excelent condition with working locks and keys to both the hood and trunk doors.
The movement looks to have been recently serviced, is in good working order and keeping good time.
The maximum dimensions are:
209cm (82") high
50cm (19.5") wide
26cm (10") deep
This clock was last sold in 2009 for £4800 so now represents particularly good value.
Free local delivery and setup (70mls), national and international delivery arranged at cost
