Large posthumous portrait of a military officer dated 1946. Three quarter length portrait of a young French or possibly Belgian officer with an upturned moustache. Pictured in dress uniform with gold epaulettes, a very impressive set of medals including the legion d’honneur, and his hands resting on the hilt of his sword. Inscribed on the rear of the canvas as F.L Gottoel 1875-1923. The painting is signed to the right of the canvas Harry Maas (Dutch, 1906 – 1982) and dated 1946. Some scratches to the surface and couple of small holes, all toward the sides of the canvas. Presented unframed on the original stretcher.
