Large Frank Gresley Watercolour 1855-1936
A gentle watercolour by well known and highly collected Derbyshire artist Frank Gresley depicting castle ruins with a river running through and cattle drinking. Typical Derbyshire scene with silver birch woods in autumn colours. Painting is housed in a nice period gilt frame and a fresh mount.
Frank Gresley (1855–1936) painted mainly landscapes, of which the best known are those of the River Trent at Swarkestone, Barrow upon Trent and Ingleby, Derbyshire. His father, James Stephen Gresley, was an artist, and his two sons Harold and Cuthbert also became artists. Gresley lived most of his life in Chellaston, Derbyshire. He exhibited mainly at the Nottingham Society of Artists between 1881 and 1920
