Large Brittany Seascape By Roger De La Corbiere
We are delighted to offer for sale this large oil on canvas by the French artist Roger de la Corbiere, who has signed the painting in the lower right hand corner and entitled it verso St. Pierre de Quiberon.
The painting bears the stock label of the well known art dealers E. Stacy Marks.
The painting depicts an early morning scene, with the sun, shining from behind a cloud, reflected in the waves lapping near the rocky shore. The location of the painting is on the Brittany coast, which was the artist's main subject matter.
ROGER DE LA CORBIERE, 1893-1974,
Was a French artist who was born in Vienna.
He studied under the Russian painter Choltse, who was a great exponent of light and shade particularly in snow scenes. He exhibited at the Paris Salon for 35 years, receiving the Silver Medal in 1954. In 1957 he received the Bronze Medal from the Salon des Independants.
The French State acquired several of his paintings in 1925. His painting are in the collections of many well known persons throughout the world.
He worked mainly from his studio in Brittany, but also spent some time in the Riviera. His daughter carried on the family tradition, painting similar scenes.
The painting is framed in its original 3" cream/grey frame with linen inner and will be supplied wired ready to hang.

CONDITION
Excellent condition. There are no repairs to the canvas which is clean and taut. There is no craquelure, paint loss or stretcher marks. The original frame is in very good condition.
