Landscape Oil Painting Cattle Watering By R.mann
FINE QUALITY RIVER LANDSCAPE OIL PAINTING WITH CATTLE WATERING BY LISTED ARTIST ROBERT MANN C1880 PRESENTED IN BEAUTIFUL SWEPT GILDED FRAME 30 X 22 APPROX.
This is a delightful fine quality river landscape oil painting on canvas by the Birmingham artist Robert Mann, who has signed the painting in the lower right hand corner and inscribed it verso on the stretcher 'On the Wnion Nr. Dolgelly'.
The painting depicts the River Wnion and Afon Wnion, which is the largest tributary of the Afon Mawddach near Dolgellau, with a few cattle watering on the left side of the river. The Afon Wnion is renowned for sea trout fishing.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Robert Mann was born in 1841 in Handsworth, Birmingham, where he lived for the majority of his life. He was one of many Birmingham artists of that era and painted landscapes, primarily in oils, including scenes in Wales like this one. He lived at various addresses in Birmingham with his wife Sarah Isabella and their children, including Soho Hill, Crompton Road, Churchill Road, and Varna Road, Edgbaston.
Robert Mann died in Porthoustock, Helston,Cornwall on 2nd December 1923 and is buried in St Keverne churchyard.
He exhibited 23 paintings at the Royal Society of Artists in Birmingham between 1869 and 1892.
There is one of his paintings in the National Collection and can be viewed at Torre Abbey or on BBC - Your Paintings under the name of the artist.
There are auction results available for his work at the usual sites and the record price in recent years for one of his paintings is £3,250 at Christies in March of this year for a 25" x 14".
Our example is competatively priced and represents value for money.

The painting is framed in a very nice swept gilt frame and will be supplied wired and ready to hang.

CONDITION
Very good condition throughout with the canvas being clean and taut and there are no repairs. There is some very fine craquelure in the sky area. The frame is in excellent condition.
