John Everett Millais R.A. Signed letter 1878

1 of 2
John Everett Millais R.A. Signed letter dated 22nd August 1878.
John Everett Millais. R. A. (Pre-Raphaelite artist) 1829-1896
3 page letter dated 22st August 1878 sent from Bowers Well, Perth, Scotland. He says to the recipient that his son is quite unwell and he will not be back in "town" for a while. He says he was a visitor to the RA in July and something about meeting him then and assessing his talents and.... "I might spend all my time in appraising struggling artists"....The back of the letter has some adhesion of another letter from being once in an album. Not affecting the letter as such. He painted "Bubbles" and "Cherry Ripe" later on in his career, but his "Ophelia" in Tate Britain is utterly compelling and epitomizes the Pre-Raphaelite brotherhoods art in the mid-19th century. From an archive of the Holbeche family of Sutton Coldfield and probably to Helen Holbeche. (We believe the budding artist was George Grenville Henry Manton)
