James Hartley.
History Of The WESTMINSTER ELECTION: Containing Every Material Occurrence, from Its Commencement on the 1st of April, to the Final Close of the Poll, on the 17th of May, to Which Is Prefixed a Summary Account of the Proceedings of the Late Parliament So Far as they Appear Connected With The EAST INDIA Business and The Dismission of the Portland Administration. With Other Select and Interesting Occurrence's at the Westminster Meetings Previous To Its Dissolution on the 25th Day of March 1784 (With the continuation printed AFTER the election added here).
PUB by J. Debrett, T. Beckett, R. Faulder, Mr Thornton, (sellers) and printed for the Editors.
London 1785.
Description: XII pp + 574 pages with an errata leaf and 11 folding plates inc pollsters chart and 4 full page copper engraved political caricatures after Thomas Rowlandson and possibly James Gillray (the style varies considerably on some plates), these bound in at the rear as a group, the pages 539 to 574 were printed a little later than the 1874 edition and are included here concerning Charles James Fox and his dealings with the first plate is of "Carlo Khan" (FOX) and his Triumphant Entry into St Stephens Chapel, this might have been from another place as it has vertical fold lines and is a little darker than others, but the offsetting on the chart would indicate it has always been bound in? The binding is a late 19th-early 20th century three-quarter chocolate morocco with the spine relaid and 5 raised bands and gilt titles on the spine, some loss at corners to the leather, drab green plain cloth boards, contents are either good+ to very good+. Quarto. 1785.
NOTE. The Hathi Trust has a copy of this with 16 plates and the British Library copy states they have 17 plates (Including the chart). The other few institutional library copies are either lacking the post-election section or are vague as to how many plates their copies have. Copies (few) online here as we list either have fewer plates or none? SOLD as listed, textually complete, plates in this copy seem complete?
