Grand Antique English Oak Stationery Cabinet c1880
A most impressive huge writing box made from solid English Oak with two very heavy duty cast brass handles, one either side, this an impressive and hefty box.
The cabinet comes with a work key and once unlocked the lid can be lifted to reveal the leather clad underside. These are often referred to as "fall front cabinets" as this is exactly what they do, the front comes down and again unfolds one more time to reveal the original leather writing slope, the top section with a space below for letters or papers.
The box contains the original blotter in the rear compartment and a set of four original leather bound books, all unused. There are two framed ceramic slates, one plane and a rare printed "Engagements" slate.
Below this is a bank of three drawers each with a cast brass handle, beautifully lined in leather and below this is a removable pen tray flanked by the two original period inkwells. This section is sprung and is only revealed when the double action writing slope is unfolded and disappears again when packed away.
About as good as they get!
Excellent condition measuring 19" x 11" x 12" tall.
