Good Pair of 19th Century Indian Paintings Aurangz %%alt5%% %%alt6%%
This is an exceptional pair of antique Indian portrait paintings dating from around 1880. These exquisite paintings of Aurangzeb and Dilras Banu Begum are very finely executed in gouache and are beautifully hand gilded on panels.

Muhi-ud-Din Mohammed commonly known as Aurangzeb was the sixth Mughal emperor who ruled over the Mughal Empire for 49 years. He was a notable expansionist who expanded the empire to 4 million square kilometres making India the worlds largest economy at the time, around 1690, greater even than Qing China.

Dilras Banu Begum was a member of the Safavid dynasty of Persia and a descendant of Shah Ismail I. She married Aurangzeb in 1637 and bore him 5 children.

The portraits are displayed in beautiful gilded frames with soft gold cushion velvet mounts

Both portraits are in excellent condition. They make a very fine pair.

The Emperor measures 27 cms by 22 cms overall including the frame. The painted panel is 15 cms by 9.5 cms.

Dilras is slightly smaller with the frame at 27 cms by 20 cms and the painted panel being 15 cms by 8
