Gilt-Framed Georgian Engraving of John Lee 1788
Artist - Engraved by C.H. Hodges (1764-1837) after the original by Joshua Reynolds (1723-1792)
Title - John Lee, Esq.
Details - Antique engraving, published 1st March 1788 by John & Josiah Boydell. It looks to have been cut down and pasted on to a backboard. Glazed and framed in an antique gilt frame that is probably nineteenth century in date.
Condition - Overall in fair condition. The engraving and the backboard are discoloured with age and have some foxing (brown spotting) and scuffing. There is some significant water staining along the bottom of the engraving and the backboard. The frame has some scuffing, chipping, cracking and wear and some significant areas of loss. It has been overpainted at some point.
