Georgian Scottish Jacobite Silver Horn Snuff Mull

Georgian Scottish Sterling Silver Mounted Ram’s Horn Snuff Mull/ Snuff Box, early 1800s with possibly Jacobite Dolphin symbol - could be as early as mid 18th C.
The tip of the horn has been carved to resemble a dolphin head with black eyes and carved mouth with teeth. Dolphin (French Dauphine - for the historical title for the heir to the throne) refers to 18th-century supporters of the exiled Stuart dynasty. In Jacobite iconography dolphin was used as one of their secret symbols.
Silver collar/rim and hinge. The lid made of horn and cork is silver mounted with a vacant cartouche and a decorative motive.
Inscribed to rim "A. Bullions” (poss. Scottish family from Fife).
No hallmark which is usual for the Scottish provincial items.
In good antique condition with a solid hinge. Still retaining its original cork fitting to close the lid, unfortunately due to age suffered some shrinkage so the lid cork does not snap.
No damage to the horn and silver.
Approx. 12cm long, lid 4cm by 3.5cm.
Very tactile. Historically important item.
Listed items are usually available to view at the Red House Antiques Centre in York.
Please contact, preferably by email, for shipping costs and payment options.
