Georgian Oak Longcase Clock John Hall of Beverley
George III late 18th century mahogany longcase clock. The case of the antique clock in mahogany has an arch topped door to the front and inlaid chamfered sections to the front sides.
On the top of the arch are 2 spandrels surrounding a switch for turning off the striking mechanism (unfortunately this part of the mechanism is no longer with the clock) The main dial has a brass chapter ring inscribed John Hall Beverly at the bottom and surrounded by 4 brass ornate corner spandrels. Inset in the centre of the dial is a subsidiary second brass dial and a calendar aperture. The ornate hands are of blackened steel.
The movement is an eight-day movement with 2 weights and a pendulum striking the hour onto a bell, this has recently been serviced.
John Hall was known to have working Beverley during the middle to later part of the 18th century and is recorded to have died in 1807.
Height: 236cm
Width: 51cm
Depth: 24cm
