A Georgian period mahogany longcase clock. A well proportioned case in solid Cuban mahogany with an arched hood pediment surmounted by 3 brass finials. Hood glass side apertures. Brass capped hood columns and an arched trunk door. A raised plinth panel. An arched brass and silvered dial with name cartouche to the arch. Dial corner spandrels, date and seconds dials. An 8-day duration mechanism striking the hours on a bell. A brass flat rod pendulum of London design often seen on Portsmouth antique clocks of this period.

Richard Smith of Portsmouth is recorded in Baillies' 'Watchmakers and Clockmakers of The World' book as working before 1748. We had a very similair antique clock by this maker some years ago.
