Georgian Longcase Clock by Lassell of Liverpool
A fine quality flame mahogany 8 day longcase clock by William Lassell of Toxteth Park, Liverpool c.1790.

The high quality case of typical late 18th century Lancashire style, constructed of an oak carcass with the finest flame mahogany veneers and boxwood shell inlays. The boxed swan-neck pediment hood with carved cusp to the centre surmounted with three original cast brass finials, gilt decorated verre eglomise panels beneath. The hood door flanked by double turned and crisply reeded columns, with matching half columns to the rear. The beautifully figured book matched flame mahogany trunk door flanked by reeded quarter columns to the trunk sides. The base with canted corner and complex stepped mould, all set on four ogee bracket feet.
The beautifully executed arched japanned dial of “Ashwin & Co” manufacture, with Roman numeral chapter ring and outer Arabic numeral markings, with subsidiary seconds dial and sweep centre date.
Revolving phases of the moon to arch with opposing scenes depicting rural landscape and seascape. The early japanned dial decorated with raised gilt gesso and painted corner spandrels. The dial centre painted with flowers and signed Lassell Toxteth.
The fully restored fine quality eight day, four pillar movement, rack striking the hours on a single bell, with geared moon drive.
Finely fretted blued steel hands of serpentine design and brass sweep calendar hand.
Original cast iron weights, steel strap pendulum with brass bob and the original winding key.
Ashwin & Co - Recorded as dial makers Birmingham circa 1790.
Overall a very fine and original antique clock with the movement fully restored.
