Georgian Longcase Clock by Brown of Glasgow
A fine quality flame mahogany 8 day longcase clock by Daniel Brown of Glasgow, circa 1775.
The high quality case constructed of beautifully figured cuban mahogany with detailed carved work to the mouldings and applied mouldings to the trunk and base.
The classic Glasgow style case having a flat topped hood with dentil moulding and rope twist free standing columns.
Blind fret work to the hood with silk lined sound frets to the sides.
The panelled trunk door flanked by quarter turned rope twist columns, capped with carved wooden corinthian capitals.
The panelled box base surmounted on shaped bracket feet, with carved detail.
The arched brass dial with engraved centre and silvered Roman chapter ring surrounded by finely cast spandrels.
Revolving moonphases to the arch with painted blue background, stars and full moonphases, with sivered and engraved numbered outer edge with additional tidal markings.
The chapter ring signed to the lower edge Dan Brown Glasgow.
Subsidiary seconds and calendar zones to the dial centre.
The fine quality fully restored movement of eight day duration united by four knopped pillars, with anchor escapement and striking the hours on a single bell.
Original cast iron weights and brass faced bob pendulum.
Fine quality blued steel hands of serpentine design.
